Research

My Part II project title is 'DFT Modelling of SiC/SiC Composites for Jet Engines'. Rebecca and Lisa are supervising me for my project, which is completely computer-based. Essentially, I'm using the CASTEP and OptaDOS codes to simulate experimental data that might be seen for these composite materials, to help experimentalists identify the phases present (especially in oxidised/degraded samples). Specifically, I'm simulating Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (EELS) experiments and aiming to produce a comprehensive library of EEL spectra for use in future work.

Bio

I'm a fourth-year undergraduate student in Materials Science (MEng). I'm originally from Luton but after spending nearly 4 years in Oxford it feels like my second home. When I'm not working on my beloved computer Azure, I like to exercise and play sport (when safe to do so!). My main sport is rugby but I've also played a lot of basketball, and I love anything I can play socially like football, tennis and golf. I also love travelling and hiking - yes, my pastimes really have taken a hit during the pandemic!

After my degree, I'm planning on beginning a career in the energy sector and/or technical consulting. I'm currently in the midst of multiple job applications and hoping to secure a graduate role soon.
